History of the LVMH Group

By: B.A Morley, Editor, TheWatchIndex.com

LVMH, an acronym for Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, is a French-based luxury goods company. Created in 1987, the LVMH Group established themselves in the luxury goods industry. They now consist of 70 houses that span all five of the luxury goods categories: wine and spirits, fashion and leather, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewelry, and selective retailing.

To encourage creativity and innovation, LVMH’s 70 companies remain independent despite being a part of a larger company. Each company designs, develops, and manufacturers their own unique products. LVHM steps in to help distribute the goods worldwide.

Of the five business groups, watches and jewelry is the most recently established. This division was created in 1999, and it is now comprised of 7 high-end watch and jewelry companies. These companies include: Chaumet, TAG Heuer, Zenith, Bulgari, Fred, Hublot, and De Beers Diamond Jewellers.
