Girard-Perregaux 1966 WW.TC Review
Girard-Perregaux focuses on the world timer complication in this Girard-Perregaux 1966 WW.TC. Previously, the GP world timer chronograph series displayed a chronograph, date window, and world timer, causing a crowded dial that was disliked by many watch connoisseurs. By scaling down and eliminating the chronograph and date window, Girard-Perregaux was able to refine the watch, decrease the thickness, and offer a more balanced, aesthetically-pleasing dial.
All in all, the World Wide Time Control, or WW.TC, collection received a much needed make-over with this new version. In the past, this collection featured bold sporty designs and large dimensions, neither of which fit well with the lifestyle of a traveling businessman. By decreasing the size of the case and taking the watch into a dressier direction, Girard-Perregaux transformed this world timer into a practical yet attractive watch.
As for the dial, the world timer displays 24 cities in uniform font and sizing on the rotating outer ring. Buyers can instantaneously set the world time ring with the 9 o’clock crown. Next comes the 24-hour disc which includes a day/night indicator with a symmetrical white and black background. Finally, the dial offers a standard 12-hour display with leaf hands, simple indices, and a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock.
This watch features the automatic manufacture caliber GP0330 with a 46-hour power reserve. The movement is finished with contrasted graining, chamfering, and Cotes de Geneve stripes, and buyers can see a sneak peek of this movement through the sapphire glass caseback.
This dress watch is eye-catching but not ostentatious. The case sits at 40mm wide and 12mm thick. The slim bezel is perfect for slipping under dress shirts or jackets, but the 40mm diameter won’t look small on your wrist. This watch will be available in stainless steel or rose gold, and buyers can choose between a stainless steel bracelet or a black leather strap. The leather strap comes with a matching Ardillon buckle.
